Office of Drew County Sheriff

Sheriff Tim Nichols

February 17, 2023

During the late evening of February 15, 2023, the Drew Central School District Administration and the Drew County Sheriff's Office learned of a post in which was made by a Drew Central High School student. The investigation into the post started immediately and a meeting was scheduled amongst the Sheriff's Office, School, and the parents of the student. Following the meeting, on the morning of February 16, 2023 proper action was taken on behalf of the School District, and the Sheriff's Office secured an arrest warrant for the student.

The student, Jacob Bennett (18) of Drew County was arrested without incident on February 16, 2023 for the offense of Terroristic Threatening. On February 17, 2023 Bennett was taken before Judge Crews Puryear for his First Judicial Appearance. A bond was set at $15,000. Further conditions of the bond are that he is banned from all School District Property and events.

I, Sheriff Tim Nichols want the parents, students and staff of not only Drew Central, but all schools within our county to know that your safety and well being is a top priority to this Office. I am thankful that this issue was handled quickly and without incident.

Sincerely,

Sheriff Tim Nichols
