04/26/2011

Members of the Drew County Sheriff's Department and Monticello Police Department executed a search warrant at 228 South Conley Street on April 26th at approximately 7:40 pm; two arrests were made.

Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober said that he had been investigating the residence for some time due to frequent traffic in and out of the residence. At approximately 6:30 pm, Sheriff Gober received information that crack cocaine had been seen at the residence. A search warrant was obtained and officers drove to the residence. When the officers arrived it was observed that two suspects were standing outside the residence. The suspects were detained and entry was made into the residence.

Albert Lambert, age 59 of Monticello, was arrested at the scene. It was discovered that he had a container of a white rock substance believed to be that of crack cocaine located in his shirt pocket. The substance weighed out to be 3.7 grams. A pistol was also located in the residence. Lambert was charged with possession of controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, and distribution near certain facilities due to a church and daycare being located near the residence. The last charge carries a possibility of a 10 year enhancement if found guilty. When taken for his first appearance before Judge Ken Harper, the Sheriff's Department recommended a $10,000 bond. Harper gave Lambert a $1,500 bond. He has since bonded out.

The other suspect was identified as Jerry Avery, age 54 of Monticello. Avery was not charged in connection with the search warrant; however, he was arrested on a parole warrant and was transferred to Union County.
