Two Arrested After Traffic Stop - Drugs Suspected

During the afternoon hours of March 21st, the Drew County Sheriff's authorities arrested Detraveone Simmons, age 25 of Monticello, and Veance Binns, age 44 of Monticello, during a traffic stop that was initiated on Highway 35 North near the Monticello Country Club. After authorities observed an open beer container in the vehicle, Simmons, the operator of the vehicle, and Binns were detained while the vehicle was searched. During the search, a white substance wrapped in plastic believed to be that of crack cocaine was discovered under the car seat.

Simmons was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver. Binns is charged with a parole violation and drinking on the highway. Both Simmons and Binns were each given a $5,000 bond by District Court Judge Ken Harper. Binns is also being held on a parole warrant in the Drew County Detention Facility. Both remain in jail at the time of this release.
