Drew County Sheriff's Department Arrests Couple for Selling Drugs and Bootlegging

Drew County Sheriff's Department officials executed a search warrant Tuesday, January 26, at a residence located at 1710 Highway 278 East. Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober says that he had been receiving information regarding the sale of controlled substances and alcohol from the residence. Officials entered the residence at approximately 2:30 pm and found approximately 2.5 ounces of marijuana, most of which was packaged to sell, numerous drug paraphernalia, along with approximately $330 in cash. Officials also discovered approximately 289 containers of beer and hard liquor.

Taken into custody was James M. Washington, age 59 of Monticello, and Barbara Pierce, age 59 of Monticello. Both Washington and Pierce were placed in the Drew County Detention Facility on charges of possession with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, continuing a criminal enterprise, and selling alcohol without a license. Washington's bond was set at $15,000 but Pierce was released on her own recognizance.
