Fishing Pole Argument Escalates to Vehicle Being Shot
On December 8 Drew County deputies were dispatched to 127 North Cominto Road in reference to a damaged vehicle. It was later found to be bullet holes in the vehicle.
Upon arrival deputies spoke with a witness at the scene who stated that Daron Ray Barnett had came by the home days earlier to try to retrieve some property, mainly fishing poles. At approximately 3:30 AM on December 8th, Barnett returned to the home. When a witness said she heard shots fired, she looked out the window she saw Barnett flee in a vehicle. On December 11, Barnett was arrested at 363 West Pope Street in Monticello without incident. He was placed in the Drew County Detention Facility charged with terroristic act and felon in possession of a firearm. He was held on a $25,000 bond. Barnett bonded the same day.
On December 18, Barnett was again arrested and placed on in the Drew County Detention Facility where he is charged with first degree terroristic threatening and intimidating a witness. He is being held on a $50,000 bond. Barnett is alleged to have called an individual connected to the missing fishing poles and threatened to burn his house down along with him and his children in it. Barnett remains in jail as of December 21.
