Drug Arrests in Selma

While in the Selma area at approximately 11:50 p.m.on October 5, Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober reserved two occupied vehicles in the parking lot of the Pine Hill Grocery Store. Gober spoke with the subjects as to why they were there. One of the occupants stated that his car had overheated; however, the car did not appear to be overheated. Drew County Deputies David and Wesson and Ben Michel arrived on the scene. The subjects were asked to get out of the vehicles. Michael J. Ellis, age 22 of Monticello, had in his possession a loaded pistol. Consent was obtained to search the vehicles. Located in the trunk of Ellis's vehicle was approximately 3/4 pounds of marijuana. Ellis was arrested at the scene and transported to Drew County Detention Facility charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and simultaneous possession of drugs and fire arm. His bond was set at $75,000. He bonded the following morning.

The passenger of the vehicle, Tracey R. Hutcherson, age 33 of Dermott, was also charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. He was released on his own recognizance on October 7.

Also seized was approximately $650 from both subjects and a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber.
