08/19/2009

Members of the Drew County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant on August 18 on a residence located within 50 feet of The Revival Center located on Pine and Jackson Streets in Monticello. During a search of the residence, officials discovered a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and a white substance believed to be that of crack cocaine. The residents of the home, Angela Shaw, age 35 of Monticello, and Carlton Dickerson, age 34 of Monticello, were both arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, continuing an criminal enterprise, and possession within proximity of certain facilities, being the church.

Shaw and Dickerson's bond was set at $2,000 each. Shaw bonded August 19. This was the second time during the day that arrests were made for possession of drugs near a church. These churches are sacred establishments in our community and must be protected.

Any citizen with information regarding illegal drug activity is encouraged to contact the Drew County Sheriff's Department at 367-6211, Monticello Police Department at 367-3411, or the Drug Task Force at 460-0900.
