Traffic Stop Results in Drug Arrests

Drew County deputies made a traffic stop on North Conley Street in Monticello on August 18. The occupants had an odor of alcohol on them and were removed from the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, Charles Dobbins, III, age 29 of Monticello, was arrested on a Failure to Appear warrant. He was charged with a parole violation and was cited for driving on a suspended license and failure to use a turn signal. Dobbins remains in jail on the parole violation.

During a pat-down search of Kendrick Simmons, the passenger, age 28 of Monticello; a white substance believed to be crack cocaine was located on his person. Simmons was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession in proximity to certain facilities. Simmons bonded out on August 19. The "certain facilities" would be Holmes Chapel Church located on East McCloy Street.
