Truck Crashes Into Camper

On Friday, October 12th at approximately 10:48 PM, Drew County Deputies were dispatched to a report of an accident on Highway 425 North. Upon arrival deputies observed a Dodge four-door pickup truck lodged into the side of a 42-foot camper trailer. The driver of the pick-up had fled on foot according to a witness.

Details at the scene and witness testimony indicate that as the Dodge truck was traveling south it abruptly left the highway, crossed the north bound lane, left the roadway, and struck a 42-foot camper. The camper was listed for sale and had been parked on private property for some while. The witness stated that the driver of the pick-up exited the truck and fled on foot.

Shortly after the accident, dispatch received a call from a Jeremy A. Johnson stating that the truck had been stolen from his property. The investigation of the accident concluded on Tuesday, October 16th, with the arrest of Jeremy A. Johnson, age 28 of Monticello. Johnson was arrested and charged with driving on a suspended license, careless and prohibitive driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and filing a false police report.
