Man Shot at Ladelle Residence

05/19/2009

Drew County Deputies received a call Sunday morning from Drew Memorial Hospital Emergency Room staff reporting a patient with a gun shot wound. When deputies arrived, they spoke with the victim, Jerry W. Pryor, a 30 year old resident of the Ladelle community.

Pryor stated that he had gone to the home of Charlie Hewitt, age 52 and also of the Ladelle community, to talk about mowing his yard. During the discussion, Charlie Hewitt became agitated at Pryor and asked him to leave. As Pryor was leaving, it was reported that Hewitt pulled a .22 rifle and shot Pryor in the right leg. Hewitt then walked over to Pryor as he was trying to get into his vehicle and pointed the gun at Pryor. Pryor was able to grab the barrell of the gun; however, Hewitt pulled the gun from Pryor's grasp causing a cut to the right hand of Pryor.

Pryor was transported from Drew Memorial Hospital to Jefferson Regional Medical Center at Pine Bluff. Hewitt was arrested without incident at his home and is being held at the Drew County Detention Facility where he is charged with aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm. His bond is $35,000.
