The Drew County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of vehicles being broken in to at University Pointe Apartments, located at highway 425 South, on May 2, 2009. When deputies arrived they were advised that two vehicles had been vandalized and two vehicles were broken in to. Several items were taken from the vehicles including a 40-caliber handgun.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that a suspect was identified as Almonzo Watkins of Monticello. Officers went to his residence to interview the suspect. Once arrived, the handgun was recovered and Watkins was arrested and booked into the Drew County Detention Facility. His bond is set at $2,500.
