At approximately 5:30 AM on Monday, May 21^st, a Drew County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a one vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 278 and Highway 530, west of Monticello. When the deputy arrived he found the driver, Joseph James, 35 of Monticello, trapped in the vehicle and severely injured. It appeared that the driver had lost control of his truck and then ran into the ditch before striking a concrete culvert causing the truck to go airborne. Rescue was able to extract James and he was transported to Drew Memorial Hospital where he was airlifted to a hospital in Little Rock where he remains in critical condition.
