Trio Goes on Stealing Spree

11/14/2011

On the morning of November 11, the Drew County Sheriff’s Department received numerous calls in reference to items being stolen from vehicles and houses in the area of Old Highway 13 in Monticello approximately between 9:00 PM on November 10 and 7:00 AM on November 11. A majority of the items were stolen from vehicles that had been left unlocked at the homes.

On the night of November 12 while performing a traffic stop on Midway Route, a Drew County Sheriff’s deputy noticed items in the vehicle that matched the description of some of the items stolen from Old Highway 13. The three subjects in the vehicle were placed under arrest and transported to the Drew County Detention Facility to await questioning. While performing an inventory of the items in the vehicle, deputies also identified a PlayStation 2 with a game inside the console that had reported stolen from a residence located on Midway Route.

Buddy Wayne James, 29, Angelica Richardson, 22, and Arthur Piper, 23, all of Monticello, were charged with residential burglary, theft of property, engaging in continuing gang organization or enterprise (2nd degree) and eight counts of breaking or entering. All were taken for a first appearance where they all received a $75,000 bond. All three remain in custody.

Sheriff Mark Gober wants to remind citizens to make sure to keep their vehicles locked, even at home, and not to leave anything of value in their vehicles.
