08/15/2011

On August 15, the Drew County Sheriff’s Department was notified of an accident that occurred at the Monticello city transfer station at approximately 11:00 AM.

Billy Hill, age 57 of Monticello, was loading tires for recycling into a 6-foot, 10-inch metal bin when he slipped and lost his footing on a large pin roller on the trailer on which he was standing, then fell into the bin, according to Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober. “There were only about four tires in the bin when he fell,” Gober said. “Where he landed there were no tires.”

Hill was transported by ambulance to Drew Memorial Hospital then transferred to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where he died.
